Watch: Stockport Old Town Folk Festival

Stockport Old Town Folk Festival

Thousands of people packed out Stockport town centre for the Old Town Folk Festival despite the poor bank holiday weather.

Thursday’s entertainment was washed out but there was still plenty to enjoy, including Foodie Friday, morris dancing and musical entertainment.

Organiser Rosemary Barratt said: “The community of Stockport turned out in force despite the wet weather and the weekend was a huge success with hundreds of people attending events throughout the weekend.

“Sunday’s family activities saw participants in Seven Miles Out, the Market Hall, Stockport Museum and St Mary’s Church with plenty to do for all ages from pottery workshops to learning to play the ukulele.

“The festival generated great community cohesion with people going from venue to venue and enjoying all the performance in the Market Square.

“Folk Foodie Friday had with another great turnout and performers Liam McClair, Chloe Jones, The Hayes Sisters and Dr Butler’s Hatstand Medicine Band playing to large crowds, while the Fosbrooks folk group played to a huge audience in St Mary’s Church.”

The event is sponsored by Robinsons Brewery and supported by Stockport’s Portas Pilot Group, Stockport Council and Arts Council England.
