Stockport pupils raise £1,000 for St Ann’s Hospice and Beechwood Cancer Care Centre

Stockport Music Service raised £1,100 for St Ann’s Hospice and Beechwood Cancer Care Centre

Children from across Stockport didn’t let the rain dampen their spirits as they gathered together for a special musical extravaganza in aid of two charities.

Music ensembles, schools and other local groups took to a special outdoor stage to perform at Stockport Music Service’s first ever Festival on the Field at the Music Service premises in Offerton, which raised £1,100 for St Ann’s Hospice and Beechwood Cancer Care Centre.

Heather Barlow, Deputy Head of Stockport Music Service, said: “We wanted to give our young people the chance to perform in a less formal environment, whilst having fun and raising money. The event was a great success and we will be doing it again next year.”

The event, which was held over three days included performances from hundreds of local children, along with a host of non-musical entertainment including ‘Beat the Goalie’ and ‘Wellie Wanging’ competitions.

Eamonn O’Neal, chief executive of St Ann’s Hospice, said: “It is fantastic that so many young people donned their wellies to put on a brilliant weekend of entertainment and fun in aid of local charities like St Ann’s.

“Donations like this one are vital so that we can keep providing care to local people, so a huge thank you to everyone involved from all of us here at the hospice. We really appreciate all of your support.”
