Bramall Hall’s opening weekend is sold out when 1,400 people with tickets will see the £1.6m restoration of the interior.

Those who didn’t manage to get a ticket will still be able to enjoy the free Tudor Festival outside the hall in Stockport on the weekend of July 30 and 31, including strolling minstrels, colourful jesters, archery, campfire cookery, traditional crafts and a tented encampment.

Councillor Kate Butler, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “I’m very excited for the reopening of Bramall Hall and we can’t wait to welcome people back inside.

“It’s great news that the 1,400 tickets were sold out, confirming Bramall Hall status as a main local and regional visitor destination.

“I’m also looking forward to the many exciting events this summer at Bramall Hall and I’d encourage all residents to keep an eye out for future activities.”

Bramall Hall will be fully open from Tuesday, August 2, while the summer activities programme has also been announced, starting with a Meet the Restorers Day on Sunday, August 14, between 11am and 4pm when visitors will get the chance to meet the people who have restored Bramall Hall.

Contractors William Anelay will demonstrate the traditional crafts of lime plasterwork, carpentry, leadwork, gilding and historic brickwork.

There will also be the chance to meet the talented conservators who have breathed life back into precious objects and decorative features inside the Hall.

Bramall Hall will also participate in the national initiative Heritage Open Days, where there will be free entry for visitors over the weekend of September 9-11 including twilight tours and self-guided tours.

Details of these events are listed in the new Stockport Museums Exhibitions & Events Guide, which is now available from the Stockport Tourist Information Centre, Stockport Council Museums, Libraries and Stockport railway station.
