The UK’s newest obstacle course race (OCR) event is coming to Stockport.
Tough Tribe – a mixed terrain obstacle race with 5km and 10km versions – will take place on Sunday, September 24, at Stockport Sports Village (SSV) in Woodley and is open to individuals and teams, or rather ‘tribes’.
Encouraging participants of all abilities, aged 16 and over, to unleash their potential and feel ‘like a tribal warrior’, the event is the brainchild of Stockport charitable trust and not-for-profit social enterprise Life Leisure.
Michaela Pennington, Operations Director at Life Leisure, has led on developing the event alongside experts from within the OCR world and believes Tough Tribe will become a key date in the UK OCR calendar.
Michaela said: “Obstacle course racing is the fastest-growing mass participation sport in the UK, with around a quarter of a million people taking part every year.
“But at the moment there aren’t that many that take place locally – with most north west events operating in the Lake District. So we thought, why not bring OCR to Stockport.
“Looking at the space and terrain we have at SSV, and having already seen a real appetite for OCR activity locally – with many of our members regularly signing up for national challenges – we set about developing an event that would have widespread appeal.
“The course has been designed to challenge all fitness abilities, will run over open ground, woodland and urban zones, and feature a wide range of natural and man-made obstacles.
“Our hope is that the course will become a training venue for OCR enthusiasts following the event.”
