Try out as a firefighter with women’s American football team

Cheshire Fire recruitment

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is holding a recruitment event to encourage more women to become firefighters.

The free event, aimed primarily at women, is on Sunday, April 17, at Crewe Fire Station from 10am-3.30pm.

The recruitment pod, a bespoke unit containing virtually all the elements required for the national firefighter recruitment tests, will be there so that people can see just what is needed to become an on-call firefighter.

A Cheshire spokesman said: “There will be female firefighters from the service who can talk to people about what it is like to be a firefighter and, also trying out on the recruitment pod, will be several members of the Team GB Women’s American Football Team which is ranked number two in Europe, including their captain, Crewe-based Phoebe Schecter who was also a 2016 Ninja Warriors competitor.

“If you’ve ever thought about becoming firefighter, or even if you haven’t but we’ve made you curious, come along, try out the recruitment tests, talk to female firefighters and see how you get on in the pod against Team GB.”

Team GB will be at the event from 10am-12pm.
