The Vernon Building Society has donated goods to two Stockport foodbanks after its reverse advent.

Vernon staff donated non-perishable food or toiletries over a period of five weeks in the run-up to Christmas and have now given the items to Chelwood and Stockport foodbanks.

Operating out of several different locations, the foodbank provide support to those referred through agencies who are in desperate need of help.

The Vernon also encouraged the local community to join in with the donations from staff, collecting additional supplies in their local branches.

Marketing Manager Alex Deakin said: “It was rewarding to deliver the supplies we collected to Stockport’s foodbanks.

“It was very clear that the donations are in high demand and support from local businesses as well as the community is essential in order for the foodbanks to continue providing supplies to local people.”

Donations of non-perishable food and toiletries are required all year round.
