The Vernon Building Society has given full-time jobs to two of its apprentices and taken on a new trainee.

Melissa Fyfe, 18, has been appointed as a Business Administrator, while James Corrigan, also 18, is now a Finance Officer at the mutual society.

Both completed a year-long apprenticeship at the Stockport-based society that involved working across a number of departments as well as in branches.

Libby Maugham, 16, has just started her 12-month apprenticeship with all three placements organised by Damar Training in Stockport.

James, who wants to be an accountant, said: “Apprenticeships give great on-the-job training in a work environment and that’s not something you get at college.”

Rosie Grant, Operations Manager at the Vernon, said: “The apprenticeship scheme is something we are particularly proud to be involved with as it gives young people from the Stockport area an opportunity to gain skills and experience in a real working environment.

“We treat our apprentices as though they are permanent members of the team right from the start and ensure they get access to a whole range of different jobs and departments during their year with us.

“Offering Melissa and James full time roles at the end of their 12 months indicates how well they have done and how much the Society has benefited from their enthusiasm and hard work.”
