Ale and comedy at Stockport Beer Week

Stockport Beer Week runs from September 19-29 and includes pub and brewery tours, stand-up and an ale trail.

TV comedian James Dowdeswell will be doing a stand-up gig to promote his CAMRA book, The Pub Manifesto, and beer sommelier Annabel Smith will lead a tutored tasting of seven beer styles through the ages.

Cellar tours of four historic pubs are on the agenda and Robinsons are offering a rare opportunity to visit their Unicorn Packaging Centre in Bredbury.

For cider fans, Dan Hasler from the Orchard Project will be holding a tasting of ciders and perries, and Viking-themed tapas bar Vinabod will be offering beer and food pairings all week.

There is a pub crawl around the Market Place in Stockport town centre and a bus trip guide to some of the best pubs in Cheadle Hulme and Bramhall.

Beer Week co-ordinator Chris Walkden said: “Back for another year is the ale trail with prizes from Robinsons Brewery and you can expect tap takeovers, meet the brewer events, heritage pub visits and walks and good music.”

The annual event is run in conjunction with National Cask Ale Week – full details are on the Stockport CAMRA website.
