Change4life recipes were used in the bake-off using healthier alternatives such as sweetener, fruit and even vegetables to bake something with a savoury twist.
Adswood and Bridgehall community groups rose to the challenge to cook a healthy cake at ‘A Big Cake Off’ event, organised as part of the Health Inequalities Programme in Adswood and Bridgehall and delivered by Stockport Council and partners.
Change 4 Life is a national programme to encourage people to make small changes to live healthier lives.
Local people visited the different health stalls, took part in the decorate-a-cake challenge, and found out who the winning groups were for ‘You Say, We Pay’ funding.
There were also lots of different recipes that everyone could try at home.
Councillor John Pantall, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Independence & Wellbeing, said: “It was great to see the Adswood and Bridgehall community come together for their very own ‘Cake Off. It shows that it’s easy to make small health changes and have fun at the same time.”
There were 16 delicious entries and they were all judged on whether they had made sugar swaps, how tasty they were, and how attractive and imaginative they were.
After much cake tasting the judges decided there were two winners: Fred Walker, representing Adswood Art Group, for his Honey Cake and Sally Burke, representing Bridgehall Brownies, for her Lemon Cheesecake.
The winning community groups will be enjoying a special cooking session kindly donated by ‘Beyond Baked Beans’.
