Entries are now open for this year’s BIG Stockport Run, which will take place on Sunday, September 18, starting and finishing in St Petersgate in town centre.
Last year saw hundreds of runners take part with Jake Littlehales finishing in first place overall in the 10km race with a time of 33.19, while top lady was Linden Hiscock (43.07) and the top team was MJP1 with their five-person team completing with a combined time of 3.37.03.
The BIG Stockport 10km run is aimed at runners of all abilities aged 16+. Also back for this year is the popular 1km family fun run
Entrants can run, walk or complete the course as a group with previous runs seeing competitors in fancy dress as part of their personal drives to raise money for their chosen charities.
For the 10k, chip timing technology will be used, so everyone can get accurate results of their run.
There will be prizes for men’s, women’s and team categories and a goodie bag containing a T-shirt and medal will be provided for participants.
But it isn’t just about the runners there will also be a fabulous family festival village where there will be exhibitors, food and children’s entertainment which promises to provide plenty of fun for all the family.
Life Leisure members and staff are making the BIG Stockport Run their goal for this year and have signed up with #myfitnesspledge making a commitment to take part as well as helping to organise the event on the day.
Sam Barton, Community Sports Officer at Life Leisure, said: “This is the fifth BIG Stockport Run we have organised and we are anticipating a record turnout.
“This is an event for everyone, whether they are a serious runner or just coming along to have some fun. It also helps local people raise a lot of money for their own favourite charities as well as being a key date in the diary for elite runners.”
Life Leisure is looking for local businesses to step forward as sponsors for the BIG Stockport Run, which will see not only the local community taking part, but also runners from further afield.
There are a number of different ways you can support this great event, so if you are a local company who would like to get involved, please get in touch with Laura Mylotte, Life Leisure Marketing and Communications Manager, on 0161 482 0900.
