Stockport charity Clough Farm Animal Sanctuary has announced it is to close.
A statement on its Facebook page said ‘we have very sadly reached the conclusion that now is the time to put things in to place to look to re-home the Gang, and ultimately close the Charity down’.
The charity based on Windlehurst Lane in Marple took in animals – including horses, sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, rabbits, pigs and dogs – that have been neglected, abandoned or abused by previous owners.
The Facebook statement went on: “We have to inform you, with our hearts well and truly heavy, that we have had to take the decision to close Clough Farm Animal Sanctuary and also the Charity.
“This decision has not been taken lightly – far from it in fact.
“We have found ourselves incredibly short of hands-on resource on the yard for looking after the Gang, and despite our best endeavours to encourage people to come along to volunteer in whatever capacity, and with a small committee of just seven, it sadly has become too much for us to manage long-term.
“The animals’ welfare and continued care is, of course, our primary concern and absolute aim.
“We are pleased to say that some of the Gang have already been re-homed with some really fabulous new owners, and we thank them so, so very much.”
Clough Farm’s famous residents have included Crunchie the asthmatic pony and Buster the sheep who needed a special trolley to get around.
