Organisers of ‘Tough Tribe’, one of the UK’s premier obstacle course races (OCR), have announced a new feature for this year’s event in Stockport next month – two dedicated ‘family waves’ specially designed to encourage families to participate together.
Taking place on Sunday, September 23, at Woodbank Park, Tough Tribe is a mixed terrain obstacle event with 5km and 10km versions featuring obstacle walls, scramble nets, high inclines, rope climbs, pulleys and a few ‘gungy’ surprises.
Previously only open to participants over the age of 16, this year event organisers Life Leisure have added two special race waves for families with children over eight and under 15.
Taking place over a slightly shorter distance of 4km, and starting at 2.45pm and 3pm, the waves will be run over some of the course’s key obstacles including another new development for 2018, a 100ft long slip slide, one of the longest of its kind in UK OCR racing, and a foam pit.
After taking on the challenge of overcoming obstacles, all Tough Tribers will also be able to enjoy food, drink and family activities across the dedicated race village.
Andy Brooks, Tough Tribe Project Manager, said: “This really is an event for all abilities and ages, from elite OCR runners keen to beat their best time to family groups looking to have a bit of Sunday fun.
“We’ve deliberately designed it that way so that everyone gets a chance to try out what is now the UK’s fastest growing mass participation sport.”
And for those keen to fit in a bit of pre-event training, or who would simply like to get a flavour before they sign up, Stockport Sports Village (SSV) is also now home to one of the UK’s few permanent outdoor OCR training facilities.
