With Heaton Moor 1st XV’s fixture away at Eagle postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, it was left to the 2nd and 3rd s to fly the flag for the Green Lane club.
The second team continued their excellent run of form with a 57-19 home victory against Manchester.
An early try from David Adebo was quickly cancelled out by Manchester but Moor soon stretched their lead with further first half tries from Mike Ingham and Jack Humpage.
The second half saw a barrage of tries from the youthful Moor side interspersed with a couple of late consolations for Manchester.
The result leaves the 2nd XV well positioned in the league, sitting in third position just two points behind the promotion places.
The 3rd XV travelled to Marple 3rd, who were bolstered by an influx of players after their 2nd XV game was postponed.
Fortunately Moor had a couple of ace cards up their sleeve with a new half-back combination and debutant John Knight coming in at number 8.
The game was very tight for the first 20 minutes but the deadlock was broken with a ten metre drive for the line by Stuart Poole. From this point on the Moor defence was rarely troubled.
A length-of-the-pitch try from Remi Akinbode stretched the lead to 14-0 at half-time.
Danny Child was the sole scorer in the second half with a penalty and a late solo try to put the game out of reach at 22-0.
This was a well-earned win which pulled the 3rds further away from the dreaded relegation zone.
