Iddon looks ahead to revised 2021 British Superbike Championship season

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship have issued a revised season for the 2021 season.

The calendar has been updated and all events will now take place beyond 21 June – the date which provisionally marks the easing of spectator restrictions at large elite sporting events.

A statement from the Series organisers read: “Series promoter and organiser MSVR has been in talks with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) over recent weeks to clarify aspects of the government’s roadmap plan – in particular the capacity limits that apply to non-seated venues during Step 3 (17 May to 20 June).”

Consequently the opening round of the championship will now take place on 25-27 June at Oulton Park, around a month later than previously planned.

VisionTrack PBM Ducati rider Christian Iddon will be looking forward to the opening weekend of the season, taking place at his ‘home’ round.

The scene of Iddon’s first win in the BSB Championship, Snetterton in Norfolk, plays host to round seven, across the weekend of 3-5 September.

The final round of 2021 will be played out once more at Brands Hatch in Kent, over the weekend of the 15-17 October.

Christian said: “From a racing perspective it’s disappointing for it to be pushed back, and it’ll be a really tight schedule.

“It’s going to make the championship really exciting, it’ll be really close and it’s a massive plus that we’ll be getting back to some sort of normality with fans back again. I’m really excited to get going.”
