Manchester Airport UK’s best airport at the Globe Awards

Manchester Airport is flying high after being named the UK’s best airport at the Globe Awards hosted by Travel Weekly. The UK’s third largest airport fought off competition from the likes of Heathrow, Gatwick and Birmingham to receive the accolade for the second year running.

The award comes after a magnificent 2015 for Manchester Airport that saw it smash its all-time passenger record as 23,116,554 passed through the airport in the calendar year. It also saw Manchester Airport announce a £1bn transformation programme of its terminals and saw new routes to the likes of Miami, Jeddah and Porto commence.

2016 will see direct routes to Beijing, Boston and Los Angeles, making Manchester Airport the only UK airport outside of London to offer these destinations.

Voted for by travel agents, representatives from Manchester Airport picked up the award from Dame Edna Everage at a glittering award ceremony at Grosvenor House in London.

Stephen Turner, Commercial Director for Manchester Airport, said:

“We’re delighted to receive this fantastic award and would like to thank all the travel agents who voted for Manchester Airport. “2015 has been an incredible year for the airport with record passenger numbers, the announcement of the transformation project and expansion by lots of our airlines.

“Looking ahead, we have some very exciting new routes already confirmed to start in 2016, including Beijing with Hainan Airlines, plus Boston and Los Angeles with Thomas Cook Airlines. We’ll also be working hard to try and retain our crown for a third year.”
