Manchester Storm hit back to beat Nottingham Panthers

Mike Hammond was on target for Manchester Storm

Manchester Storm’s never-say-die attitude was demonstrated on Wednesday evening when they trailed Nottingham Panthers three times before beating them 4-3 with a goal in overtime.

The win gives Storm a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Challenge Cup.

Ciaran Long was deservedly named man of the match for his two goals including the winner. Mike Hammond and captain Dane Byers were the other scorers on the night.

The performance was just what Storm needed and they looked very sharp close to the opponents’ goal, taking their chances well.

Head Coach Ryan Finnerty said: “It was a great performance by the whole squad. Scoring goals from close range is part and parcel of the sport and it’s something we have been lacking.

“The return of Mike Hammond has been a massive boost for us as he is a great team player and brings out the best in the players around him.”

Storm travel to Champions Cardiff Devils on Saturday before returning to home ice on Sunday evening when they entertain Glasgow Clan (5.30pm).

Clan inflicted a defeat on Storm a couple of weeks ago when Storm had several players out injured.
