A new, free podcasting event starts in Media City tonight (March 20) to bring together the region’s growing podcasting community.
MIC, a community for podcasters, founded by audio producer Vic Turnbull, has launched the Edit Club to provide a space to edit episodes, record interviews, plan podcasts and network with other local podcasters.
Vic, who also has her own podcast called ‘Tourist’ and is the director of the independent music website Silent Radio, says podcasting can be a solitary profession.
She said: “MIC’s Podcast Edit Club wants to get people out of their houses, because, let’s be honest, podcasting can be a lonely game – more often than not, it’s just you and your computer, editing for hours on end.
“The club is a unique, supportive environment for pro audio producers and DIY podcasters to connect, troubleshoot tech problems together, get a fresh pair of ears on their latest edits or kick-start new connections and collaborations.”
The Edit Club, which is supported by Barclays Eagle Labs, will have the support of professional audio producers to offer advice and answer podcast related questions.
On hand at the first event will be Kate Cocker, a renowned audio industry insider and presenter coach who’s worked extensively across the BBC and commercial radio.
Kate, also produces her own podcast and Amazon Alexa Skills Briefing called ‘Everyday Positivity’.
She said: “A big chunk of podcasting is all about doing it on your own, but without fail something amazing happens when like-minded creatives get in a room and collaborate. That’s why I’m really excited to be involved in MIC’s Edit Club.”
The MIC’s Podcast Edit Club is free and starts tonight, Wednesday, March 20, between 6pm and 9pm, at Social 7, The Landing, Media City, Salford. To register click here.
