The Vernon Building Society Poynton Brass Band won the Senior Trophy at British Open Spring Festival in Blackpool under conductor Ryan Watkins.

Band chairman Frank Needham said: ‘Our success in claiming the Senior Trophy further confirms the substantial progress the band has made in the last couple of years with MD Stig Maersk.

“We are fortunate to have some very talented soloists and a dedicated team of players.”

Following the contest and concert season, the Poynton Brass Band is recording a CD in November and hopes to compete in the Wainstones Cup later in the year.

Adam Pemberton, from the Vernon Building Society’s marketing team, said: “It is always an absolute pleasure to hear the band perform and to have won such a prestigious award is testament to the talent of the band members.

“We continue to be a proud sponsor of the band and I look forward to their next performance.’
