New boss Simon Rusk earned a first home win for Stockport County as The Hatters beat in-form Yeovil Town 1-0 at Edgeley Park in the National League.
After a 2-0 defeat to high-flying Sutton United on Tuesday evening, Rusk’s County side responded in perfect fashion early on as man in form Alex Reid slotted confidently past Adam Smith to cap a strong start by the hosts in the first half.
The Hatters continued to look the more likely of the two sides to get the next goal, with Connor Jennings, Reid and Jordan Williams all going close to doubling that lead but the in-form Glovers made it to the interval trailing by just the solitary goal.
Rusk’s men kept up the pressure after the break, with Reid inches away from teeing up strike partner Richie Bennett for a County second before Jennings blazed high over the crossbar after good work down the right by John Rooney.
Yeovil did come close to what had looked a previously unlikely leveller when lively winger Josh Neufville burst into the box and forced a low save from Ben Hinchliffe, before the visitors embarked on a sustained late spell of pressure without forcing any real, big opportunities.
The visitors were reduced to ten men in stoppage time when skipper Lee Collins produced a shocking challenge on Macauley Southam-Hales, and County saw the remaining seconds out without any further danger to secure a deserved three points.
