Cheadle teenage taekwondo star Holly Kelly returned from the Dutch Open with a gold medal.
The championship in Eindhoven is a G1 ranking event and renowned as being one of the largest and most prestigious taekwondo competitions in Europe, attracting teams from across the globe.
Holly, 13, beat Norway’s Amilie Brevik 11-7 in the semi-final of the Cadets -47kg competition before winning the gold medal by beating Sasia van Wanrooij from the home nation, 6-4 in the final.
Holly’s coach Nick Brinklow said: “The Dutch Open is also a selection event for the European Championships in Romania later this year and Holly is now expected to represent GB Taekwondo for the third time at a major championships.
“She represented her country at last year’s European Championships in France, where she won bronze, and also at the World Championships in South Korea.”
Holly, who goes to the Kingsway School in Cheadle, trains at the Jeon-sa Taekwondo Academy in Stockport and Didsbury, and is a member of the GB Taekwondo national cadet team.
