The awards are an annual event, sponsored by businesses, honouring those who give up their free time to support GMP.

Nine categories were recognised during the awards including Special Constabulary individual and team, Police Support Volunteer individual and team , Volunteer Police Cadet of the year, an Active Citizens award and, new for this year, the Employer Supported Policing award.

In addition, a special recognition award was given to Special Constable Linden Riley who retires after 48 years of service as a volunteer police officer.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “It’s always humbling to meet those who give up their free time to help others, and these awards really highlight what a huge contribution volunteers make to Greater Manchester Police every single day. The time and dedication that these people give is truly remarkable.

“Everyone has a part to play in keeping our communities safe and it’s fantastic to see so many people devoting their own time so willingly to making Greater Manchester an even better place to live. Thank you all for your contribution.”

Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Jim Battle said: “Volunteers are the community force of Greater Manchester, contributing their time, experience, and knowledge for the benefit of others.
