Iddon remains in Showdown contention after solid Cadwell weekend

It was a solid weekend for Stockport’s Christian Iddon as the Tyco BMW rider clawed back valuable points at the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire with a brace of top-six finishes.

Iddon set the 10th fastest time in opening practice, choosing to sit out free practice 2 as a result of heavy rain, then climbing to order to seventh overall.

Come qualifying, Iddon once again got through to Q3, claiming eighth on the grid for race one.

A trademark great opening lap saw Iddon up to fifth place as the lights went out on the opening race of the weekend, and by lap four the former World Superbike rider had claimed fourth spot, where he settled for the most part of the race.

He was pretty much a dead cert for a fourth-place finish, when a false neutral two laps from the end led him to run wide, losing two places, and crossing the line in sixth position.

Starting race two in sixth, Iddon had climbed back to fourth by lap two, and this time made it his own, settling in to finish in fourth position.

The British Superbike Championship next moves on to Iddon’s ‘home’ track, Oulton Park in Cheshire, over the weekend of September 6-8, with three races to go before the Showdown.

Luxton makes the podium

Elsewhere, Stockport’s Ben Luxton claimed a podium place as the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship visited Cadwell Park.

Luxton claimed pole position for the JR Performance racing team, aboard his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, and went on to finish second, setting the fastest lap of the race long the way.
