Kirkby Lonsdale 12-28 Heaton Moor Senior Colts
Heaton Moor Senior Colts kept up their unbeaten start to 2019, returning with a thumping win from Kirkby Lonsdale.
Moor ran in four excellent tries, two from flying winger Emilio Ramirez, and it was a perfect kicking day for skipper Nick Tenney.
There were also commanding pack performances, particularly from Oscar Elvin and James Bellis.
It was clear that the Stockport lads were in no mood to return empty-handed.
Three minutes in, they were off the mark, Dom Rafferty springing quickly from a scrum, providing quality ball for Andrew Badrock, who intelligently kicked a beautifully weighted pass for Ramirez to chase down and score.
Moor continued the pressure, although Kirkby’s speed to the breakdown was causing problems.
But any sorties into Moor territory were met with ferocious tackling. One particular turnover ten minutes from half-time brought the second try, Ramirez picking up the ball on his own 22, and dancing through tackles to score.
From almost the same position as previously, Tenney kicked the extras.
Kirkby Lonsdale hit back on the stroke of half-time to cut the gap but Moor were still in control.
It only took three minutes to start the second-half scoring as Asa Bottomley turned over Kirkby possession and with a mixture of force, speed and no little class, added to an ever-increasing seasonal tally.
Again, from a tricky angle, Tenney converted for the third time.
Any time the home side looked like scoring, they were met with some awesome tackles, stopping danger in its tracks.
And when the time came, halfway through the second period, flanker Tom Eaton finished a delightful move, scoring almost under the posts for an easy fourth conversion.
Kirkby Lonsdale scored a consolation try at the death, the first time Moor dropped their guard, but it was a worthy victory.
The lads now look forward to a home game against Liverpool Collegiate, whose confidence will be sky-high after their victory over table-toppers Altrincham.
