Stockport Plaza 85th birthday celebration weekend

Stockport Plaza

On the weekend of October 7th and 8th 1932 a vision was born when The Plaza Super Cinema and Variety Theatre opened her doors here in the heart of Stockport in a blaze of glory with a Laurel and Hardy screening followed by a film feature of ‘Out Of The Blue’ starring Jessie Matthews and Gene Gerrard.

Now, 85 years on, and the glorious Plaza is still serving you and her community as the best venue for Big Screen, Live Stage, Events & Dining in the region and to celebrate her cinematic past, present and future we are proud to be presenting two fabulous U Classification film events on Sunday 8th October for all the family to enjoy with special two screen tickets available to enjoy a day of pure silver screen gold.

At 2pm we shall be hosting our Another Fine Mess Family Film Day when you can join us for a fantastic family film event for ALL ages when we celebrate the undisputed Kings of Big Screen Comedy – Laurel and Hardy in a family friendly homage to the hilarious duo.

Following all this hilarity we shall be showing the magnificent feature film ‘The Smallest Show on Earth’ at 6pm which tells the hilarious story of Matt Spenser (Bill Travers) and his wife (Virginia McKenna) who inherit a small cinema, the Bijou, from a distant relative but are shocked to find a decrepit building that comes with a host of eccentric employees.

Tickets for either of these celebratory birthday events on Sunday 8th October can be purchased from The Plaza box office on Mersey Square in Stockport, by calling our Booking Line on 0161 477 7779 or by visiting The Plaza website.
