Whalley Range close the gap in the Lancashire and Cheshire AFL

With top club Whalley Range having no game, Mellor took the chance to close the gap at the top of the Lancashire and Cheshire premier league to ten points with 5-0 win away at High Lane.

Mid-table Rochdalians awon 5-0 at home to Old Ashtonians and Tintwistle comfortably defeated Bedians 3-0.

In division one top-of-the-table Moorside Rangers took a comfortable 4-1 win on the 3G in their local derby away at Salford Victoria.

Despite second placed Signol having no game, third place Milton could only pull one point back with a 1-1 draw at bottom of the table Swinton whilst the mid-table clash between Old Stretfordians and Bury Amateurs ended in a 3-2 away win for Strets.

In the other matches in the division Stoconians won 6-3 against Didsbury FC and Trafford Utd won 4-0 away at Oldham Victoria.

In division two this week, no game for the top two, but third place Whalley Range Reserves came out 7-5 winners in a high-scoring fixture against Spurley Hey and go level in third place with Hooley Bridge Celtic who were in cup action this week.

In the other two matches played, lowly Moston Brook Reserves puled out all the stops to beat South Manchester Reserves 4-2 at home whilst Chorltonians and AFC Oldham 2005 were sharing the goals in 3-3 draw.

Chorltonians Reserves stay in front

In division three Chorltonians Reserves kept ahead of the chasing pack with 1-0 win at lowly Chadderton Park whilst second place Didsbury Reserves kept up the chase with a 3-0 win away at Heaton Mersey and Newton Heath Reserves maintained their third place with a 3-1 win at Cheadle Hulme.

Out of the top three in division A only Hollingworth played and ran out 5-2 winners against near neighbours Tintwistle Athletic Reserves.

Fourth-placed Signol Reserves kept up their chase for a top three place with a 7-5 win at home to Hargreaves. In the only other game in the division Aldermere took a 3-0 win against Mostom Brook 3rds.

In division B, Tintwistle Athletic thirds were involved in an eleven goal thriller against Old Traford & Gorse Hill Reserves, eventually coming out 7-4 winners to maintain their second place whilst third place Village lost ground only managing a 1-1 draw against lowly Chorltonians Villa.

Bottom club Staly Lions Reserves earned themselves a superb 4-1 win at home to Old Stretfordians Reserves and Hillgate managed a 6-2 win at home to Bedians Reserves.

In the other games in the division, Bury Amateurs 3rds lost 1-0 at home to Deans and in a mid-table clash Milton Reserves won 5-1 away at Rochdale Galaxy

Spurley Hey Reserves increase lead

In division C, Spurley Hey Reserves increased their lead at the top of the table with a 6-1 win away against Didsbury 3rds. With some fixtures postponed Salford Victoria Thirds had a chance close the gap on the top three but could only manage a 1-1 draw with Abacus Media 3rds this allowed Manchester Rover to close the gap on Vics with their 5-2 win away at AFC Oldham 3rds.

In the other games, Parrswood Celtic 3rds ran out 5-3 winners at Moston Brook 4ths and Stoconians 3rds comfortably won 8-2 at home to AFC Stockport.

Five  matches this week in Division D where top of the shop Bedians 3rds won convincingly, 4-0 at home to Droylsden Youth and second place Trafford United Reserves also won 4-0 away at Chorltonians Athletic.

Third place Didsbury 4ths finished on the better side of a five goal match, with a 3-2 victory over AFC Oldham 4ths and in the other two matches Swinton Reserves won 3-2 at Old Stretfordians 3rds and bottom club  Whalley Range 4ths were soundly beaten 9-3 by Staly Lions 3rds

In a Wray Cup catch-up match on the 3G at Wright Robinson, Hooley Bridge ran out 1-0 winners against Newton Reserves to advance into the last eight of the competition.
