Singer/songwriter Lucy Spraggan will be entertaining the crowds at the Manchester Midnight Walk in June.

The X Factor star, who is from Buxton, will be performing on the main event stage at the event in aid of St Ann’s Hospice.

Spraggan will play to the expected 1,500 walkers before they set off on the 10km sponsored moonlit stroll around Manchester city centre to raise money for the local charity.

She said: “It’s a great cause and a brilliant charity so I’m really happy to be involved. I have full respect for anyone walking through the night so a few songs to see them off is the least I can do.”

The Manchester Midnight Walk, which will take place on Friday, June 23, has become a staple on the city’s fundraising calendar, with last year’s event raising just under £170,000 for St Ann’s.

The event has pulled in the crowds every year since it began in 2007, creating a unique late-night party atmosphere.

The walk leaves Manchester Central at midnight, with music and entertainment on the event stage starting at 9pm.

The 10km route covers landmarks such as Manchester Cathedral, St Ann’s Square and Spinningfields.

Eamonn O’Neal, Chief Executive of St Ann’s, said: “Big thanks to Lucy for agreeing to help us warm up the crowds at this year’s walk.

“We’re thrilled she’s able to join us, and are looking forward to her performance on the night.

“It’s amazing seeing so many people gather together and head off around our great city to raise money for local patients.  We’re so grateful for their support, and to Lucy for giving up her time to help us too.

“We need to raise around £16,000 every day to keep our hospice sites and community services running, and every penny raised at events like this one helps us to make a real difference to the lives of our patients and their families.”

Organisers are urging anyone interested in taking part to register as soon as possible.
