A number of girls’ football clubs in the South Manchester area are on the lookout for new players.

Didsbury Girls Football Club trains every Tuesday from 5pm-6pm in the main sports hall at Barlow RC High on Parrswood Road. Girls aged four to 11 are welcome to go along and join in.

Jane Carroll, one of the organisers, said: “Girls are split into three age and ability appropriate groups with an FA qualified coach leading each and enjoy a mixture of skills, drills and games.

“There is no sign-up, no joining fee, no special kit and no commitment needed. Girls can join in whether they have played for years or never playeDidsbury Girls Football 1d at all. Simply pay £4 per session on the door.”

Didsbury Girls Football started in November 2015 following on from the popular mixed ‘First Touch Football’ which takes place at Barlow High every Friday from 5pm-6pm. So far almost 70 girls have taken part in sessions

There are also clubs at Burnage (Kinsgway AFC), Stretford (Longford Girls FC), Altrincham Girls FC, Marple, Wilmslow, Hough End Griffins, Reddish and Levenshulme Girls FC.

Longford Girls FC

Longford Girls mainly recruit girls from the Chorlton and Stretford areas.

Organiser Ruth Johnson said: “We train at Stretford High on Fridays from 6p-7 usually and play matches on Saturdays.

“Our home ground is Longford Park and we’re currently looking for players in years 5, 6 and 7 to join us – nothing needed except a pair of boots and some enthusiasm.”
